Disputes Resolved was founded in 1993 by James Franks and John Mulcare to assist disputants (the parties) to resolve their disputes as quickly as possible, at the least cost and with minimum stress and inconvenience for all concerned.  Both partners were accredited as mediators by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), having commenced their training in 1991.  Disputes Resolved has expanded rapidly since its inception and has a network of over 150 accredited mediators, through which it operates country-wide. CEDR invited Disputes Resolved to act as ambassadors for them. However, mediators with other recognised training and pupilage are accepted on the panel.  The experience of mediators drawn from various disciplines is wide-ranging and enables a comprehensive mediation service to be offered.

James Franks was registered with the Central London County Court as a mediator, and carried out several mediations under the Court's scheme.  Disputes Resolved was also approved as the organisers of the Brighton County Court mediation scheme which had the support of the then Lord Chancellor's Department, and Disputes Resolved has become a recognised provider of mediation services to Sussex County Courts.
